Dear parents and carers,

We have had a brilliant first week of our Spring 2 term. The children have all loved the opportunity to be outside for forest school and we cannot wait to continue this for the rest of the term. We have also begun our new project exploring and labelling the UK.

In English this week, we have been looking at our book for this term – ‘The Dark’ by Lemony Snicket. The children used the book as a prompt to use their imagination and produce some impressive writing including; writing questions with prepositions, describing how The Dark might sound and talking about a characters emotions. If you would like to do some additional English this week it would be great to focus on writing using different prepositions.

In Maths, we have continued to learn about teen numbers. This week’s we looked at 1 more and 1 less, placing and estimating numbers on a numberline and comparing teen numbers. Attached are the maths sheets for this week: Spr2 Week 1 Maths sheets

In Phonics, we have been learning different spellings for the /u/ sound.

/u/

/u/ – fun, sun, jump, luck, hug

/o/ – son, come, shove, love, cover.

/ou/ – double, trouble, cousin, young

Please continue to practice spelling these words at home. Challenge- write these words in a sentence.                                                                                                                                                  Here is a phonics website with interactive games PhonicsPlay

We hope you have a lovely weekend,

Year 1 Team
