Dear Majesty,
Year 1 has been amazing this week with all their learning!
In English, we have been learning about the great fire of London and we have been asking question. We used the symbol “?” and the question starters:
“What…”
“Where…”
“When…”
“Who…”
“Why…”
“How…”
In Maths we have been learning about place value and counting number within 20 in a number line. We also introduce the concept “estimation” and we have been learning about one more and one less.
In Phonics we have been learning the /oy/ sounds splet <oy> and <oi>
Examples: coin, toy, annoy, destroy, boil….
Can you find the /oy/ sound in this text? A joyful trip to the beach
In History we have been writing letters to King Charles II to persuade him to help the people of London to put out the fire. We have been reviewing the story and discussing what where the problems that helped to spread the fire in 1666.
Next half term:
We will start our new geography project about Eddington, how to locate the school in a map and to learn the different features of a map.
you can have a look at this map to find information and check where the school and other significant places around Eddington.
In In Phonics next week, we are learning the /ar/ sounds spelt <ar, al and a>. If you would like to do some extra reading with your child, here is a reading comprehension worksheet
Have a wonderful half term everyone.
The year 1 team.
Messages from school.
We are delighted to be hosting a pop up book fair on Tuesday 21 February in the hall (first Tuesday back after ½ term). BookWagon Ltd. will be bringing a range of books priced at £5.00 for paperbacks and £10.00 for hardbacks.
The Fair will be open to all families immediately after school pick up until 4.30pm. Please pick up your child(ren) as normal and enter the hall from the outside (fire) door on Eddington Avenue. Purchases can be made by cash or card; on every purchase school will make a ‘commission’ in books for the library.
In addition, KS2 will have the opportunity to learn about the books during the school day, and make a purchase at that time if they bring the correct money with them (cash only).
We do hope you are able to support this event, and we look forward to seeing you there.
