Dear Parents and Carers,

We’re happy to share the highlights of our first week after the half-term holiday. Our young learners have been busy (including a trip to the Zoology Museum). Plus, we have an exciting request for our upcoming STEM lessons.

English:
This week, we delved into the book ‘Claude in the City’ by Alex T Smith, Children have been practicing their writing skills. They created sentences using expanded noun phrases and conjunctions.

Maths:
In Maths, the children confidently counted from 50 to 100, played a fun dice game, and identified missing numbers.

Phonics:
The children have revisited split diagraphs, reinforcing their decoding and spelling skills. Their progress has been remarkable!

Next week.
Next week, in English, we will plan stories with clear structures and practice sequencing narratives using time connectives. In Maths, we’ll count in tens up to 100 and learn about number lines. Phonics will review the /oo/ sound.

Other Information:
Thank you for sending in sun-hats and cream. Please label them and apply sun cream before school. They can remain in school for convenience.

Request:
For next week, we kindly ask each parent to bring a photo of their child as a baby for our upcoming STEM lessons on growth.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend filled with relaxation and sunshine!

Warm regards,

The Year One Team
