We have had another wonderful week in Year One immersing our selves in the wonders of the animal kingdom. We have been so impressed with the way that the children have embraced all opportunities for learning this week- they have worked incredibly hard!
During English we have been using our impressive knowledge of different animals to write our own non-chronological reports and riddles. Ask your children to give you some clues and see if you can guess their animals! During Phonics we have consolidated our knowledge of the different spellings of /u/ (book, just, should, love, touch, son). In our Maths lessons we have been exploring the composition of teen numbers. We have been using dual counting (ten-one, ten- two…) to help us understand the place value of these numbers. In Topic we have been thinking about the mammals of the African savanna and the role that safari parks play in their conservation. A wonderful week of learning!
Next week:
English: we will be thinking about the characters and events in familiar fairy tales. We will be using our knowledge to help us write profiles about our favourite stories.
Phonics: we will be working on the different spellings of /or/ (au, aw, or, al)
Maths: we will continue to explore the composition of teens numbers. We will also investigate what happens when we double odd or even numbers.
Topic: we will be exploring the tropical rainforests and meeting some of the exotic birds that live in this forests.
