We’ve finally made it to our well earned half term holiday. This term has certainly been one of growth and change in line with our topic From Bean to Stalk. We’ve been embracing increased challenge in our learning, particularly this week where we did some difficult booklet activities. The children really tried their best with this and we’re super proud of their determination and perseverance!
This week in English, we challenged ourselves to write a creative response to an image of a castle, imagining what might happen next and who might live inside. This is now part of our wonderful Writing Showcase wall for all our friends to see.
In Mathematics we challenged ourselves in arithmetic and reasoning activities.
In Topic we enjoyed learning about Shabbat and reflecting on the importance of being together with others in light of the celebration of Eid as well. We even prepared our own Challah bread and enjoyed this together on Friday afternoon!
First week back after half term:
English: we will be practicing using conjunctions in our writing such as ‘and’, ‘but’ and ‘so’ when describing medieval themed images.
Maths: we will be returning to look more closely at place value, ensuring that our teen numbers are written correctly (i.e. writing ‘fourteen’ as 41 or 31 instead of 13, etc. which we are finding is quite a common error at present).
Topic: We will be delving into all things Medieval, learning about medieval dancing, entertainment and the life of royalty.
Visitor: We are excited to welcome Marion Leeper who will be running story telling sessions for the children in the Forest, Bumblebees will take place on Monday, Dragonflies on Tuesday and Butterflies on Thursday. Nothing needs to be provided for these sessions but we would love to hear any feedback the children might give you afterwards!
Rainbow Challenges: Please find a copy here.
Important information:
STEM Day (Wednesday 9th of June): Please can children bring in a small box (i.e. a shoe box) for Wednesday 9th June. We are going to be using a range of techniques to make our own cars, the boxes need to be less than 14 cm in width.
Outdoor Areas: Could we kindly ask that in the mornings and afternoons that outdoor resources are not touched or removed from any of the KS1 outdoor cupboards. We are trying to develop this space and would like to have more activities set up in the mornings. We appreciate that these may be tempting, especially for younger siblings and thank you in advance for your support in this regard.
