This week our focus text has been story called ‘The Dark’.
We used this story to write a wide range of questions. Who? Why? What? When? Where could The Dark be hiding and incorporated preposition: in, on, under, beside, above, between etc
Phonics
In phonics this week, we have been learning the/air/ <air are ear ere eir ayer ayor>
Word building:/air/ – fair /are/ – bare /ear/ – wear /ere/ – there /eir/ – their /ayer/ – prayer /ayor/ – mayor
Please continue to consolidate these sounds at home and challenge your children to write these words in simple sentences and bring them into class to celebrate!
Maths
In Maths this week, we have been focusing on and subtraction ‘what is the difference between numbers 0-20 and how can we prove it? blog maths 3.3.23
Science
In Science this week, we discussed how potatoes grow, how many varieties there are in the world and where they come from. Children then had a great time actually planting the seed potatoes in our allotment. Many thanks to those families for their donations.
Next week
In Phonics the children will be learning the /ear/ sound. <ear> <eer> <ere>
In English, we will be continuing with the story ‘The Dark’ to further develop our sentence writing skills, focusing on capital letters, finger spaces and correct punctuation.
In Maths, we are learning about numbers from twenty to fifty.
In Science, the children will be planting beans. If you have any spare beans at home please could you bring them in for Tuesday.
Reading books will now only be changed on a Friday (Butterflies and Dragonflies) or Monday (Bumblebees) so please make sure you bring them in that morning.
Please send in daily snacks that are healthy and have NO NUTS. No crisps, cakes or chocolate please. These MUST be in clearly Named containers and speak to your child about not sharing snacks in case of any allergies.
