This week we have introduced our new theme for the half-term – weather. We have been learning about lots of different types of weather, especially clouds. The children have been making their own cloud pictures, doing some cloud watching and presenting their own weather forecasts.

In maths this week we have been looking at tally charts. The children have loved asking each other ‘what is your favourite weather?’ and recording this in their own tally chart. There have been plenty of opportunities to find the total and find out more about their friends.

In phonics, we have been continuing with our unit 6 sounds /j/, /z/, /w/, and building lots of words such as ‘jab’, ‘wig’ and ‘zag’. We have had plenty of opportunities to use our phonics knowledge during our group work this week where the children drew a picture of their favourite weather and labelled this using words and sentences. We have been really impressed.

Across reception, there have been many exciting things happening this week. Dragons have visited, and some children even ended up in jail! Some small groups headed out of school for a walk to Sainsbury’s to buy supplies for their focus child learning. As we continue the year we will take more groups on local walks so please do not worry if your child did not go this week- they will get their turn. We have loved following the children’s interests and we can’t wait to see what next week will bring.

Please can we remind everyone to bring the children’s reading books every day. This is to ensure we can read with the children as much as possible throughout the week. The reading books will still go home with children on an evening so that you can continue to read with them at home too. Reading books will continue to be changed once every two weeks.
