Over the past few weeks, Acorns, Pumpkins and Sunflowers have been exploring what they might want to be when they grow up. It has been lovely to hear all the wonderfully creative job roles from being a scientist to a kitten mermaid. We have been reading the text ‘When I Grow Up by Jon Hales’, this text has given the children an opportunity to explore different job roles and give them an understanding of who they are now and who they might be in the future. To help them with this journey, the classrooms were transformed into airports and doctors surgeries, as well as, an outdoor scientist tuff spot.

In Drawing Club, we stepped into a time capsule and watched a Wacky Racers cartoon. We had a go at creating our own race tracks, baddies and imaginative vehicles. We learnt the words accelerate, braking, hazard, steering, chuckle, demolish, overtake, transport, these words helped bring our imagination to life!

This week, in phonics, we have introduced the children to sounds: /s/ /a/ /m/ /i/ /t/

We have also been building some words including: /mat/  /sat/ /sit/ /it/ /at/ /am/

Please give these sounds and words a go at home to support with embedding their learning. We will be sending reading books over half term,  for children to embed the new sounds that they have learnt.

To support the children with any wobbles they might have, we have been learning about how to tackle our worries. We read a Charlie and Lola story all about starting school, now that the children have been at school for almost half a term, they had lots of advice to give to anyone starting Reception in the future.

In maths, we have been learning all about the numbers 1, 2 and 3. We have looked at different arrangements of dot patterns and learnt how to subitise, could you make different arrangements of number up to 5 at home? How many of these patterns can you say the number for without counting? Soon, you will receive a login for numbots to support your child with subitising and number talk at home!

We hope you have a great week! Just a reminder that Family Festival will be on Friday 20th October 2pm-3pm, we look forward to seeing you then!
