In phonics, this week we have introduced the Unit 2 letters and sounds (n, o, p). All children who returned their Unit 1 books should now have received a new Unit 2 reading book featuring these sounds and a new book mark to guide home reading. Please return reading folders every Monday. Reading books will be changed weekly and sent back out the following day. (Please note, next week books will be collected Tuesday to be returned Wednesday due to the inset day). Thank you for your on going support with home reading.

Here is Ms Wooldridge’s video to support your home reading.

During PSHCE, we have been reading the book ‘I am absolutely too small’ for school by Lauren Child and talked about Lola’s worries and how her brother Charlie helps her to feel better. The children had some lovely discussions about their own worries and how others helped them to overcome these.

In Math’s this week the children have been exploring different concrete and pictorial representations of the numbers 2 and 3 and we have been challenging the children to explain their understanding to form deeper levels of understanding. The children have been practicing using the stem sentence, ‘1 and another 1 is 2’ and ‘1 and 1 and 1 makes 3’, whilst showing this carefully on their hands.

Next weeks learning:

PSHCE – We will be reading ‘The Gotcha Smile’

Art skill of the week: Junk modelling

Maths – The children will be building on their subitising skills. Saying the number of sounds that they can hear, such as claps or drum beats without needing to count. They will also be encouraged to explore small quantities and observe whether the quantity has changed or only the arrangements.

Phonics – Next week we will continue with our Unit 2 sounds

Have a lovely weekend!
