Well done Reception! Another busy week.

It is so lovely seeing the children develop confidence and strong friendships. This week, we began free flow. This means we open up the classrooms in the afternoons and all children are welcome to explore Pumpkins, Acorns and Sunflowers. As you can imagine, with 90 children out and about this can get rather busy but the children have been amazing! They remembered our important rule ‘Choose it, use it, put it away’ and looked after other classrooms as they would their own.

In phonics, we completed our second week of Unit 1. The children have now all received a reading book featuring these sounds. These reading books are designed to accompany our phonics sessions and ensure the new learning is fully understood by the children. This year, we have introduced the book marks and we hope that you are finding them useful in supporting your child at home.

In this video, Ms Woolridge explains a little more about our home reading books.

Here is a short video showing how to use your bookmark with your child. During this video, Miss Bray is very vocal as she marks onto this bookmark to keep the process is clear on the video. You know your child and you may find that you need to assess without talking them through the process to ensure they remain calm and happy.

Please return reading folders every Monday. Reading books will be changed weekly and sent back out every Tuesday. Thank you for your on going support with home reading. Remember, it is also very to continue to develop reading for pleasure and enjoy all of your favourite books at home.

During PSHCE, we thought about the people both in school and out of school of who are in our ‘Support Circle’. The children used their scissor skills to cut out their own circle before drawing the people who care for them (and often their pets!).

The children hav ehad a fabulous time working on their paper folding skills in our creative spaces. We introduced zig-zag folding and paper twirling. Some children even challenged themselves to create some paper springs. Their focus and concentration was amazing!
