What a lovely start we have all had to our first week of the Summer term.

We have been so lucky with the weather this week and lots of the children spent most of their time outside enjoying the sunshine. This is part of the joy of EYFS. Our learning can and does happen everywhere!

In Phonics, we have introduced our new sound /sh/.

Phonics will be slightly different this term. We will introduce one new sound each week. All of those sounds are digraphs- two letters making one sound. Due to the slightly faster pace we will send home two books each week, one that recaps the previous weeks sound and one that introduces the new sound.

We will also resume bookmarks next week, with a /sh/ bookmark going home on Tuesday to recap last weeks key sound. Of course, we constantly review our sounds but as the pace increases that home support becomes even more vital. Many thanks for the time and effort that you put into home learning.

In Maths, we recapped the principles of counting. We reminded ourselves to point as we count, say one number for each item we count, to ensure we say each number, and to remember that the final number we say is the total.

Next week, our new sound will be /ch/ and we will be focussing on the number 6 during our Maths sessions.

We are going to meet our new friend Botley as we begin to learn about coding! How exciting!

As always, we are always looking for donations of small boxes, tubes and containers for our junk modelling area. We are particularly looking for anything metal such as cake or tin cakes or milk bottle tops. (Why not treat yourselves to a tray of jam tarts and save the cases for us?)

Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating Eid today and this weekend! We look forward to hearing about your celebrations on Monday. Please do share any photographs or videos on Tapestry.

Have a wonderful weekend,

The Reception Team
