This week has been an eventful week in Reception! We have been busy immersing ourselves in paint and enjoying watching and discussing fireworks, becoming conductors of our own orchestra to create a fireworks painting to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture. Some of us liked being covered in paint more than others!!

We also had an exciting time using the ‘Spheros’ outside (which are little robots that we directed through blobs of paint) that we controlled from our ipads.

We hope the children have enjoyed this week and thank you for all your support in sending old clothes and gathering autumn leaves.

Next Week:

Focus Book: Kippers Birthday

We will be continuing our celebrations topic to learn all about Birthday Parties, a celebration that we hope the children will find very relevant and exciting. We will be planning a birthday party for our class puppet and writing a list about all the things that we will need to have a really fun birthday celebration.

Our Challenges:

Yellow- To make repeating patterned wrapping paper using the 2D shapes that we have been learning about in our previous week.

Red – To cut out and stick images of food from magazines, practicing our fine motor control and will create our own healthy/unhealthy party food plate.

Blue – To write a list of party things that we will need using our knowledge of taught sounds.

Orange (Adult-led) – To write a list of words to help Kipper to learn how to write a list.

Important Dates:

  • Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th of November: Learning Conversations will be taking place via Teams, we are looking forward to sharing and celebrating all of the amazing things your children have been doing in school. Please enter the lobby ten minutes before your appointment and wait to be accepted in.
  • Please return Nativity permission slips by Monday 16th at the latest. Thank you if you have already done this.
  • REMEMBER THAT SCHOOL IS CLOSED ON THURSDAY 19th  AND FRIDAY 20th November.

PLEASE HELP US !!!!!

Our children have had their first full-change P.E. Session yesterday and it was certainly a little challenging!

We really need your help to make this as less stressful as possible for all and you can do this by:

  1. Encourage your child to undress and fold their clothes into a neat pile independently. Model how to do this but do not do it for them.
  2. Get an earlier start, giving an extra 10 minutes and encouraging your child to get dress independently in the mornings will help.
  3. Model strategies of how to turn/pull jumpers, tops and trousers the right way round if inside out, this will help when changing back.
  4.  Place shoes and socks into pairs.
  5. Finally, there are still so many items without clear name labels, It is important that it is easily visible for your child to see and be responsible for.
  6. MAKE IT FUN! Use a timer and challenge them to get faster but keep tidy!
