We have had a wonderful week in Reception with lots of learning taking place. The children have loved their learning this week and they have really impressed their teachers… well done Sunflowers, Pumpkins and Acorns!

We have been preparing for our own Polar Adventure this week…we began by making a list of the things we would need to take in our rucksacks- there were some SUPER suggestions! The children then used recycled boxes, tubes and containers to make their own cameras and binoculars. The children were challenged to build an igloo using sugar cubes, they experimented with different ways of stacking the cubes to create their igloo. In our teacher led learning we have been focusing on some of the ‘technicalities’ of writing sentences including the importance of finger spaces. The children have applied their knowledge of tricky words in the sentences they wrote (I go to the…). Our Maths learning has been about the ‘fiveness of five’, the children have been considering different ways of making five and using their new vocabulary of ‘part and whole’.

Next Week: we will continue our topic about Polar Explorers. We will be focusing on Polar wildlife using non-fiction books.

Book Focus: Non-Fiction books about Polar Animals

Group Time Focus/orange challenge: this week we will be working on writing our own information book about Polar animals using our new sentence writing skills.

Maths: we will be learning about the sixness of six. This will include different representations of 6 (pictoral, tally, number, Numicon). We will then explore the different ‘part-wholes’ of 6 – for example- ‘2 is a part, 4 is a part, 6 is the whole’

Phonics Focus: sounds qu, y and z
