What a fabulous first week back! This week in Reception the children have come back full of energy and enthusiasm. They have been exploring the Big Book of the Blue and have been sharing their wonderful knowledge of animals and habitats. This book has inspired some beautiful creativity in the form of children’s own illustrated and written books and pieces of fantastic artwork using many different materials. Can you create your own story about animals under the sea at home over the weekend? What pictures will you include?

In Phonics this week, we have continued to explore Unit 8 sounds and words including VCC and CVCC words, high frequency words (come, some). Can you have a go at writing some of these words at home? End, help, kept, fix, mix, miss, left, sink, wind. Now see if you can write these sentences: The wind left dust on the mat. Sam must not just jump in the pond and get wet. What comes at the start? (capital letter). What comes at the end? (Full stop).

In Maths this week, we have explored the idea of more than and fewer than. The children have understood that it is quantity and not colour, size or type of object that determines if 1 set has more or fewer items.  Can you practice using this sentence using objects from around your house? _______ has more than _______ : _______ has fewer than_______.

Next week we will be introducing a new book, Storm Whale. In Maths we will be continuing, copying and creating repeating patterns. In Phonics we will be fishing for sounds and creating collaboratively, sharing ideas in our construction challenge. We will also be writing captions to describe thoughts and feelings.

Well done for a wonderful first week back!
