This week

We have continued our topic learning on plants by looking at the story ‘The Enormous Turnip’, discussing the size, shape and weight of different vegetables. We used Talk for Writing story telling actions and Makaton signs to learn the story, using the class iPads to capture our dramatic retellings. Once we learnt the story, we set ourselves the challenge of making our own books of The Enormous Turnip, designing a front cover and writing sentences to describe the actions and characters in the books.  In our role play area, we have set up a green grocers where we have been been using our maths learning to help us sell snack to one another.

Next week

We have been so impressed with the children’s sustained focus during the making of their ‘Enormous Turnip’ books that we will be continuing to finesse our authoring next week. We will also introduce the story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, using this story to investigate 3D shapes. During phonics, we will be taking one last look at Phase 3, making sure that we are secure with the phonemes and tricky words in this unit of learning.

Home learning

Over the weekend, please take a look at the home-learning letter sent home on Friday about a home-learning task for your child to do over the Spring holiday. In the early hours of Sunday morning, the clocks are springing forwards. If you can, find a time-telling device not connected to the Internet, so that you and your child can manually change the time on the clock and talk about changing times and hours of daylight.

Reminders

It is the end of term on Friday next week. Please remember that school finishes at 1:30pm on Friday 31st March. Please also remember to take home your child’s P.E. kit after P.E. next week.

In the summer term, we will be having reading den Fridays where the children can build a mini reading den in the indoor and outdoor and share their books with one another. If you have any blankets or cushions you are willing to donate to make our dens extra cosy we would be extremely happy to receive them.

Soft start is a wonderful opportunity for adults and children to share learning. Soft start ends at 9am. To ensure a prompt start to each day’s learning, please make sure that you leave the classroom once the bells have been rung by your child’s class teacher.

Thank you, as always, for your continued support of your child’s learning. Have a fantastic weekend.
