It’s been a wonderful week of learning in Reception this week, we have been exploring our inner robot engineers!

Phonics – Our phonics this week recapped Unit 9 (CVCC Words).

To continue this learning at home, you could support your child to read and write the words: grin, floss, skill, frill.
High frequency word to practise: to

Maths – In Maths, we focused on the composition of the number 7. We sang ‘7 Little Ducks Went Swimming One Day’ and investigated the different numbers that make up 7 e.g. 5 and 2, 6 and 1, 4 and 3.

Project – This half term, we will be learning how to input algorithms into a Botley robot using our design and technology skills. This week, we have learnt how to handle a Botley robot safely, input basic functions such as forwards, back, sideways. We have also learnt that robots are very clever, if we don’t remove the previous algorithm then the robot will remember and repeat it!

Art Skill of the Week – In our craft areas, we have been building on our junk modelling skills by revamping recycling items such as cardboard boxes and plastic bottles etc.

Next week, we will continue with our project ‘Building the World’, this time focusing on where Botley might live? Does he live in a town or city and what does this look like?

To support the children with their DT project this half term we have a polite request for a few interesting boxes, cartons or plastic bottles that you might usually put in the recycling but we can transform into a brilliant building.

Well done to all of the children for a wonderful week of learning!
