We have had another fantastic week in Reception. This week we read ‘Super Duper You’ and discussed what is special and unique about each of us. It was brilliant that so many children had been looking at the blog at home so already had some knowledge of this week’s story.

In phonics we have introduced the sounds /i/ and /n/. We have now covered so many sounds that (s,a,t,p,i,n) we are starting to be able to read and write some CVC (consonant, vowel, consonant) words such as sit, pat, tin or pin. We are all so excited that our phonics skills are developing. We also introduced tricky word ‘I’. We all tried our best to form the letter and then listen out for the word ‘I’ in some of our favourite songs. What a busy week of reading and writing!

Our maths, focus continued to work on our counting skills. We introduce tens frames and used practical resources to build numbers. The children loved joining in with number songs and representing numbers using different resources.

Next week we will be sorting by colour, size, shape and number. Could you find items around your house and sort them into groups? Can you explain your sorting rule to a grown up?

In phonics we will be finding out about sounds /m/ and /d/. Maybe you could start to have a think about words that start with each of these sounds?

We will be reading ‘All Are Welcome’ and celebrating the differences between us all. We would love children to be able to discuss where they are from, where their family comes from and any languages that they are able to speak or hear at home. We will be adding to our family board so please feel free to send in any family photos that you would like to add to our display. Maybe you could spend sometime this weekend writing ‘Hello’ in other languages? Bring your writing into school- we would love to add it to our family boards! We are really excited to find out more about each other!

Next week, we are going to have a focus on healthy living and physical activity as we all know how important this is for everyone’s wellbeing and growth. The inspiration came from the BMI can do it challenge, which we encourage you all to sign up  to as individuals or as a family https://www.bmicandoit.co.uk/.  The children will be taking part in different types of physical activity with their class: these include the friendship run competition throughout the week, yoga and a whole school virtual run. Children are invited to bring in pictures to share what they do at home to support their health and wellbeing, these will contribute to a whole school healthy living display. We hope you will join us in celebrating the value of physical activity.

Have a lovely weekend,

The Reception Team
