This week

We have been making the most of the amazing weather by turning our sandpit into a beach and creating water storage systems using our digging skills and guttering equipment.

We have used the story of Little Red Riding Hood to investigate subtraction as Grandma has been eating far too many sticky buns! We also had a visit from the poet, Tony Mitton, who showed how we can tell short and captivating stories using rhythm and rhyme.

Next half term

After the break, we will begin our topic ‘To Infinity and Beyond’ by learning about space. We will be considering what the planets closest to Earth are like and what makes our planet unique. In maths, we will continue to use our number sense skills to solve problems involving addition, subtraction and sharing. In phonics, we will be topping up our knowledge of tricky words.

Home learning

Over the half term break, to inspire your Acorn, Pumpkin and Sunflower about our new topic ‘To Infinity and Beyond’ you could use recycling material at home to create a space rocket together. Please bring it in on the first day back so that we can share and learn about the creative techniques the children have used in their modelling. Also, please continue to use Bug Club to support your child’s reading of phonetically decodable texts.

Teddy Bears’ Picnic

On Tuesday 11th July, from 1:30pm until 2:30pm, current children and families from Reception are invited to a picnic with children and families joining the school next year. Please bring a nut-free snack to share. If your snack is home-made, please provide an ingredient list to support any of our children with allergies. Maybe ask your Pumpkin, Sunflower or Acorn to help you write the list!

On Thursday 13th July, from 1:30pm until 2:30pm, current children and families from Reception are invited to a picnic with children and families from Year 1. Families in Year 1 will be providing snacks.

Reminders

Thank you for providing your Sunflower, Pumpkin and Acorn with their sunhats and sunscreen lotion. Please remember to bring them back after the half term.

Thank you for a fantastic half term. We are really looking forward to playing and learning with the children in the second summer half term. Enjoy the half term break.
