Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely holiday and feel ready for the exciting term ahead!
Learning Celebration Event!
We are so proud of the children’s learning so far this year and we would love the chance for you to come in and share your child’s learning with them. Please join us on Thursday 27th April for a Learning Journey drop-in between 4:30pm and 5:30pm in the main school hall. This celebration event is an opportunity to share your child’s Learning Journey with them and reflect their successes so far this year. Pick up time will be as normal on this day, please re-enter the school via the main school office entrance after 4:30pm. We hope that this event will provide time for you and your child to share, enjoy and reflect on their progress. We look forward to seeing you there!
This Week:
This week we have kicked off our fairy tales topic with the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man.’
We have been moulding and manipulating playdough to create our own gingerbread people and we have even made some gingerbread animals. We also really enjoyed writing an account of what we did in our Easter holidays focusing on remembering to use a finger space between each of our words. We then shared this writing with our friends.
In maths we have been exploring a range of maths concepts through stories. Using the story of the Gingerbread man we have looked at the counting, addition and subtraction we can spot and problem solve. Also in small groups we had a problem solving challenge to share out a batch of gingerbread dough equally among us. We discussed and explored different ways we could share the dough and used weighing scales to support us .
This week we started wood work sessions with one of our parent helpers. These sessions are on a two weekly rotation for each class and every child will have the opportunity over the half term to take part. The children are being taught to use and handle tools safely. This week Pumpkins used a hammer and nails to create decorative pieces using wood, corks and bottle tops.
Home Learning:
In Reception we are having a big focus on further developing the children’s fine motor skills. To help support this at home why not paint a picture of the Gingerbread man using a cotton bud or a matchstick as a paintbrush!
Uniform reminder:
As we are coming into the summer months there are a few more uniform options available. Just a reminder that our uniform is compulsory so please make sure your child is wearing the correct clothing. If you are unsure on the summer uniform then the information is available on our website under parent information.
Our no hat no play policy
Now that the weather is getting warmer it is really important that we all stay safe in the sun. To ensure all the children are safe when playing outdoors we ask that you provide your child with a sun hat. If they do not have a sun hat your child will not be allowed to play outside, they will either have to stay inside or sit in the shade. In reception outdoor learning is a huge part of our curriculum and we would hate for them to miss out on any experiences due to not having a sun hat.
Thank you for a great first week back and we look forward to seeing you on Monday!
