Another busy week in Reception!
This week in Math’s the we have been discussing how we can identify different parts of the whole (total number altogether) using a range of objects and pictures. We have been exploring different combinations of numbers that make 5. Can you find out all of the different ways you can make 5? How do you know you have found all of the different ways? When one part gets larger, what happens to the other part?
Activities you can practice at home:
- Make different arrangements with objects up to 10. Talk about the different arrangements they can see within the whole.
In our writing this week we have been continuing to sound out unfamiliar words, applying the segmenting skills that we have been working on within our Phonics lessons. We have also spent lots of time sharing and exploring some wonderful books this week. The children have wowed us with their fantastic reading.
In PE we have been on a pirate ship where we have been busy at work. Through this exciting adventure we have been continuing to focus upon some of our fundamental movement skills: Skipping, side stepping, balancing on 1 leg, seated balance and hopscotch. Why not have a go at these at home? How long can you balance on one leg?
Reminders:
On Monday we will be enjoying a Christmas dinner together. The children are welcome to wear festive accessories (e.g. a jumper or hat).
You should have all received an email from Tapestry to set up your parent accounts. It will have come directly from Tapestry but may have gone to your junk folder. If have not received the email please let a member of the team know and we can make alternative arrangements to set up your account.
Date for your diary: Next week School will close on Friday 17th December at the earlier time of 1.30 p.m.
Festive Fun:
Next week we have lots of festive activities ready for the children. If you are able to we would love donations of the following items-
- wrapping paper (rolls or just small scraps that can be used for crafts)
- tinsel or other sparkly decorations
- Wrapping paper tubes
Have a lovely weekend,
The Reception Team
