This week our key text has been ‘A Melting Planet’, where we have had lots of lovely discussions on how we can help to look after the world we live in. You can watch the book again here:
We have also introduced challenges this week for some areas of the classroom. Taking inspiration from the beautiful illustrations in the book, the children have been creating their own water colour pictures through blowing paint with straws. The children have also been having fun finding objects within our I spy box and some have even had a go at recording the objects they have found in a variety of different ways (counting them, writing equations and writing words).
In phonics this week, we have reached Unit 8 where we are introduced to spelling VCC and CVCC words such as ‘elf’ and ‘jump’. The children are doing brilliantly at listening to the sounds and starting to write sentences. We have been remembering to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.
In Maths we have been looking at hungarian number patterns. Through using the spots on a dice, we have learnt to quickly recognise numbers.
In Physical Education this week the children have been exploring the jungle. We have been developing our social skills through exercise and have been taking turns, sharing space/equipment and playing safely. Our fundamental movement skill focus this week has been the seated balance. Can you try this at home?
Have a wonderful half term everybody!
