Wow! Our first week at school is complete, what an achievement!
We are all so proud of the children this week, they had so many new situations to deal with and they have been amazing. Today, they were all introduced to their learning groups and their seats in the lunch hall ready for their first school lunch on Monday.
Our main aim this week was to settle into school life and explore our learning environments. The children have been confident exploring and trying out lots of our invitations to learn. Next step- tidying up! We use the phrase ‘Choose it, use it, put it away’ to try to keep the classrooms organised. Maybe you could use the same phrase to encourage tidying up at home.
All the children decorated a picture frame for their ‘First Day of School’ photo and wrote a name and age labels for the first page of their Adventure Books. Our Adventure Books will be used throughout the year to record the children’s learning and progress. We look forward to sharing their learning with you at Family Friday (Friday 20th October).
Lots of the children were able to write some or all of their name. Many were using capital letters, we are encouraging the children to use a capital letter for the initial letter of their name and lower case letters for the rest. Please try to encourage the same writing style at home. We will soon send home some resources to help with this.
If you have not already, please do send in a family photograph to be displayed on our Family Boards and a pair of wellington boots to be stored on the stand outside each classroom.
From Monday, we will place a snack collection basket outside each classroom in the mornings. Here, families can donate fresh or dried fruit, vegetables, crackers or breadsticks to be shared across the class at snack time. Please note this fruit will be shared out to all children rather than children bringing individual snacks. This will allow the children to try a wider variety of snacks as well as be involved in the process of washing and preparing their snacks. Of course, children will always have access to our usual school snacks too and donations is always voluntary.
Have a wonderful weekend,
The Reception Team
