This week the Nursery and Reception children enjoyed their first school outing. The children were so sensible during the walk to and from The Storey’s Field Centre and sat wonderfully throughout the performance. The show featured a wizard and his cheeky nephew. The two got up to all sorts of adventures and the children had lots of fun!

We learnt lots about how to put on a performance and are looking forward to thinking about this show when we put on our own nativity performance. Can your child remember the key vocabulary? stage, actor, voice, performance, volume

We hope to have created a fond memory for the children of their first school trip. There are lots more photographs and videos on your Tapestry accounts so please do check there.

In Maths, we have been working on our subitising skills! This requires the children to recognise numbers (mainly 1-5) instantly rather than counting. You could continue to work on this skill at home by playing board games and looking closely at the dice patterns. Do we need to count every time or do we know some numbers straight away?

Our Phonics work is progressing nicely. The children know quickly gather their equipment and demonstrate that they are ready to learn. They take part in a variety of reading and writing based activities and apply those skills throughout the day. This week we have finished introducing Unit 3 sounds so will begin Unit 4 next week.

Unit 1: m, a, t, s, i

Unit 2: n, o, p

Unit 3: g, c, b, h

Unit 4: d, f, v, e

Thank you to those families who have already sent in the outfits ready to film our christmas performance. We are working hard to remember the songs, actions and words. Again, here is the link if you would like to sing along at home.

Other reminders:

As we expect at this age, getting changed for PE is still somewhat challenging for many children so please do continue to work on those independence skills at home. If you think your child struggles with a particular item of clothing e.g. certain styles of shirt or tights. then maybe seek an alternative for your child to wear on PE days (Acorns: Monday, Sunflowers: Tuesday, Pumpkins: Thursday).

Have a wonderful weekend,

The Reception Team
