This week, we are exploring all things science, technology, engineering and maths! We asked the children what they thought the words science, technology and engineering meant… our classrooms have now transformed into a transport centre, fossil discovery zone and building site ready for the children to learn more.
In phonics, we are looking at the new sounds /h/ /g/ and the following words: hog, hit, sag, bag, tag. This week the children will be learning how to write the sentence “It is hot in the cot.”
Sounds we are reviewing: /a/ /i/ /m/ /s/ /t/ /n/ /p/ /o/
To support children with understanding what a sound is and how to blend the sounds together we use the phrase “Say the sounds and read the word” this helps them to understand that sounds are needed to build a whole word – you can try this at home with your little ones too!
In drawing club, we are watching the hilarious ‘roadrunner’. Each class is having a go at creating their own roadrunner, thinking about where a coyote might live, and putting together new ideas of travelling. We have learnt the following vocabulary: speedy, zooming, accident, escape, patient, boulder.
In Maths, we are learning how to subitise (see a pattern and say the number as quickly as they can)! The children have been identifying patterns and sounds and saying the number as quickly as they see it. They are also showing careful listening to see if they can subitise sounds that they here e.g. how many chimes of a triangle.
