This is the last blog post of the year before the summer holiday! Gosh how time has flown by…It feels like only yesterday that the children were showing us their new school uniform and first pair of school shoes in their gardens! We wanted to take the time to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to all of the children and families in Reception this year. It has been a pleasure getting to know all of you and supporting the children’s learning throughout the year. We wish everyone a wonderful summer break and luck in the future as they return to continue their journey as Butterflies, Bumblebees or Dragonflies.

Learning this week:

This week we have had a blended approach to learning, some of us having been doing some fantastic learning at home about fairytales – designing and labelling our own sweet houses, creating alternative endings to stories and going on a sensory walk in the woods. In Maths, we have been focusing on the concept of time by looking at the days of the week, seasons and months in our calendar year. We have been reviewing all of our tricky words as well through reading and writing.

At school the children have been enjoying forest school sessions, writing facts for their new teachers and completing their rainbow challenges of: designing their dream classroom, a rainbow hand print and creating messages for the new reception children.

Next week: Week beginning 19th July

Next week will be one that focuses on our transition into Year 1 to prepare the children to meet their new class teacher on Monday for Jump Up Day.

Our story for the week will be ‘The Way Back Home’ by Oliver Jeffers. A story about going on a journey and the unexpected things you might encounter on your way. It also touches on the importance of team work, empathy and friendship – all things we think will be great to hold close to us as we get ready to launch for our new adventures as Year one’s.

Please find below a summary of this week’s learning :

Monday – Jump up day – The children will be spending the afternoon with their new class teacher in their new classroom.

Tuesday – Creating pictures for the new children joining our school in Reception – what do we like to do in Reception.

Wednesday – Celebration of the Reception year together- a slide show of memories as a class.

Thursday – Last day of Reception. Please be aware that this is half day. School finishes at 1:30pm on Thursday 22nd July.

We hope you all have a wonderful final week of Reception, we will make sure there are lots of laughs and memories celebrated together over the next four days.

Have a wonderful summer holidays and we will see you all in September!
