This week in Reception we have been exploring the story, Jack and the Beanstalk. During Group Learning, we have been writing about our first cooking experience, using our phonics to help us list the ingredients and write captions to describe. For example, “The spicy, brown gingerbread”. In Maths, we have been ordering numbers 1-20 onto a beanstalk as well as practising to write teen numbers. How many numbers can you spot out and about this weekend? We have also been planting our very own beans; over the next few weeks we will be watching and measuring them as they grow into our very own beanstalks!
Next Week’s Learning
Group Learning: Our focus book is ‘Three Billy Goats Gruff’ – we will be discussing ideas in small groups about why the troll should let the goat cross the bridge and why the troll should not let the goats cross the bridge.
Phonics: We are moving onto Phase 4 phonics, there are no new phonemes in this phase but ‘blends’ of consonants. The children will be learning to read and write CCVC words (flag, crab, swim) and CVCC words (pink, tusk, lamp).
Maths: We will be learning about subtraction and securing our understanding of how to find one less for numbers up to 20.
Well done everyone for a wonderful week of learning!
Have a wonderful weekend,
The Reception Team
