This Week
This has been a very hot week in Reception! Thank you to everyone for remembering water bottles, hats and sun cream. We have continued with our Space topic this week thinking about inventions and inventors. The children have very much enjoyed building and creating different inventions inside and outside. We have looked at some inventions together and were amazed that computers were once the size of whole rooms! We were also interested in how mobile phones have got small and do not have buttons anymore.

In phonics we have continued to challenge ourselves to try and write in full sentences using tricky words. We are so proud of how hard the children are trying with their writing at the moment.

In maths we have thought more about subtraction and how we can use a number line to help us check our thinking. Nibbles the book monster has come to visit us in maths this week and has been eating sweets and books. We have been trying to work out how many have gone missing each time!

Next Week
We are continuing to learn about inventors next week, when we will be making our own inventions and spending some time in the art room. Once we have made our inventions we are going to write instructions for how they work. In philosophy we will be thinking about the future and the difference between the things we need and the things that we want.

In phonics we are focusing on the differences between the sounds ‘th’, ‘sh’ ‘ch’ that the children are finding challenging at the moment. We are also learning new tricky words from Phase 4. Thank you again for all of your support with reading at home!

In maths we are moving on in our number work to think about doubling and halving. We will be exploring the links between these two concepts using numbers, shapes and objects.

Home Learning
To support our maths learning next week please could you see how many pairs or doubles you can find. For example, a pair of socks or patterns at home that use doubles. You could tweet us a picture of what you have found over the weekend we would love to see your home learning fun.

Safeguarding

During this hot summer term, make sure you are drinking lots of water before, during and after school. Be sure also to wear sun cream every day. Even when it’s cloudy or slightly cooler, our skin can still be harmed by UV rays. Hats that cover your neck give you greater protection from the sun. See this website for more information about staying safe in the sun.

Reminders
As the hot weather continues please remember to bring a hat, sun cream and water bottle to school every day.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and we look forward to another busy week in Reception.
