On Friday, all children should have taken home their reading folder. How exciting!

The books link directly to the phonics that we have introduced as school each week. We have also included a bookmark. The bookmark can be used as a tool for you to support your child with their segmenting and blending skills.

Please note, as we gradually introduce sounds these books will become more detailed. Currently, we have covered 6 sounds so writing an entire story featuring only 6 sounds is rather challenging! These books are designed to support development of reading and writing. Please do continue to read all of those wonderful story books you have at home to support your child in developing their comprehension skills.

For ideas of more stories that your child might enjoy take a look at this website- https://www.booksfortopics.com/booklists/recommended-reads/reception/

For more information about how to use your child’s bookmark please see the following video-

Each week, on the blog we will share video from Mrs Woolridge around how to correctly pronounce each new sound and a few additional ideas to support your child at home.

Here is this week’s (Unit 1) video-

Please return your child’s book to school every Thursday. We will send new books home on Fridays.

Remember, our Phonics Scheme (Sounds Write) offer many additional resources. The link below gives a few examples. We would highly recommend downloading their app ‘Initial Code’. The app allows your child to repeat the content of our phonics lessons at home. We use the app at school for interventions so your child will probably be familiar with it.

Please do speak to your child’s teacher if you need any additional support,
