Over the past two weeks in Reception we have been looking at the places where we live. Exploring Eddington and considering how things have changed in recent years. The children have enjoyed seeing detailed ariel view photography of UCPS and the surrounding areas. We have also been developing our fine motor skills through a range of threading activities and have created some amazing cellophane artwork, working collaboratively, sharing ideas and discussing different colour combinations. The children in Reception have also had a special visitor this week.  This has been a dentist who has spoken to the children about how we can look after our teeth.

In Phonics we have had our second week on the Unit 5 sounds (k, l, r and u) and started on our Unit 6 sounds (j, w and z). The children have been building a range of words including log, kit, and dug. Reading and spelling words, lad, rib, Ken and also writing short sentences. Can you have a go at writing the short sentence ‘Did Mum let the cat run on the rug?’ at home this weekend?

In Maths we have continued to explore number composition. The children have enjoyed taking part in hide and reveal games, exploring quantity and number bonds within 3. Key vocabulary we have been using includes part, whole, more, less, fewer than and altogether.

In PSHCE we have been discussing friendships and feelings. We have also been exploring what makes a good friend and how we can resolve any disagreements.

In PE the children have been working hard, learning many different types of rolls. We have been really impressed at how the children have been working safely alongside others and have shown great resilience when learning new skills.

As the end of the term is quickly approaching in school the children will be preparing for their school Nativity performance. If your child has a speaking part, they should have received their line(s) in their reading folder. Their line is the green highlighted part. Any help that you can offer them to learn their lines at home would be appreciated but of course we will be practicing in school as well. The Nativity will be taking place in the school gym on two separate occasions:

Tuesday 13th December at 1:30pm

and

Wednesday 14th December at 9am

Due to capacity, we are able to offer 2 tickets per child for family and friends to come watch. We hope that you will be able to join us on one of the above dates. Please note, there will be a strict no phones rule in place for safeguarding reasons, which means that no photography is permitted.

Next week:

Phonics – We will be continuing with our unit 6 sounds (j, w and z).
Maths -In Maths we will be recapping upon our learning so far this term.
PE – We will be continuing to combine rolls and static balances within our gymnastics lessons.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Reception team
