In Reception this week the children have had lots of fun exploring the Little People Big Dreams book series. In Sunflowers and Acorns the children have been learning about David Attenborough. We have seen some wonderful  creations of animals home’s and the children have  added some beautiful labels to help others find the animal they are looking for. In Acorns the children have been drawing the animals and sorting these into different habitats.

In Math’s we have been exploring the concept of comparisons, focusing upon the key vocabulary of more than and fewer than. Can you have a go at using these words to talk about different objects at home?

‘I have more cereal than Tom’
‘I have fewer bricks than Tom’

In Phonics the children have continued to learn the Unit 8 sounds and high frequency words (some and come). Words we have been building include film, gift, limp and vest. Words we have been reading and spelling include wind, pond and jump. The sentences we have been writing include: Sam must not just jump in the pond and get wet.

In PSHCE we have read and retold the story ‘The Sand Tray’. The children have enjoyed discussing the characters and have focused upon how their body language, facial expressions and behaviour show how they feel. We have also considered why the characters are feeling and behaving in the ways they are and the different role that each character has.

In PE the children have been developing increased control over their movements, we have been building upon the children’s previous knowledge and understanding of a static balance exploring a stance. The children have demonstrated amazing effort within these sessions working both individually and in small groups. We have been particularly impressed by the thoughtful and kind interactions shown by all of the children within these sessions.
