This week
Reception enjoyed learning about the books of Alexis Deacon for book week. We spent the first day learning about Henry Finch and the power of thought. On Tuesday a curious object arrived in Reception. It was large and silver.
The children discussed what it could be and decided that an alien space ship had crashed in Reception and that the alien was lost. We talked about how we could help the alien and went to find it. We also made lost alien posters. By the end of the day, the curious object had disappeared and we read about Beegu who had landed on Earth and was looking for her mummy. She was safely reunited with her mummy at the end of the day and the end of the book.
Next week
On Monday the children will be taking part in our school-wide gymnastics day, learning new skills about how to move creatively using their own bodies and gymnastics equipment. We are also very excited that Alexis Deacon will be visiting the children sharing stories and developing the children’s learning about how to create stories using pictures and words.
Our learning
This week our learning section is about Understanding the World, one of the specific areas of learning. In Reception, Understanding the World includes ‘People and Communities’, ‘The World’ and ‘Technology’. Our learning about ‘People and Communities’ focuses on understanding similarities and differences around us and being able to talk about our families and friends. When we are looking at changes over time and comparing different environments we are developing our learning about ‘The World’. Finally, for ‘Technology’ we investigate the parts and operations of current, obsolete and toy technology, thinking about how things work and how we can use them safely.
Home learning
In maths, this week, we have been learning the Number Blocks song ‘The Whole of Me’. The children have enjoyed singing along to this song and would love to practice at home with you. Next week in class we will be planting seeds. Have a hunt around at home and see if you have any seeds that you want to bring in so that the children can predict what plant will grow from it.
Thank you for another wonderful week in Reception. We particularly enjoyed seeing all the flight-based outfits on Thursday.
