This week has been an eventful week in Reception. We have been busy immersing ourselves in fantastical fairy forest adventures, enjoying watching and discussing fireworks, becoming conductors of our own orchestra to create a fireworks painting to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture.

We hope the children have enjoyed this week and thank you for all your support in sending old clothes and beautiful costumes on Friday.

Next Week: We will be continuing our celebrations topic to learn all about Birthday Parties, a celebration that we hope the children will find very relevant and exciting. We will be planning a birthday party for our class puppet and talking about all the things that we will need to have a really fun birthday celebration.

Our Challenges:

Blue – To make patterned wrapping paper using the 2D shapes that we have been learning about in our previous week.

Red – To cut out and stick images of food from magazines, practising our fine motor control and create our own party food plate.

Yellow – To write a list of party things that we will need using our knowledge of taught sounds.

Green – To make a mud cake in the mud kitchen and put the recipe in our recipe book.

Purple – To make a birthday party scene using large construction in our outdoor area.

Orange (Adult-led) – To write a list of CVC words to help Kipper to learn how to write a list.

Important Dates:

  • Tuesday 12th of November: Odd Socks Day to celebration everyone’s uniqueness.
  • Wednesday 13th of November at 8.45am: Reschuled Phonics Workshop for Reception Parents
  • Wednesday 13th of November from 1.30pm: Learning Conversations will be taking place, we are looking forward to sharing and celebrating all of the amazing things your children have been doing in school.
  • Friday 15th: BBC Children in Need – if you wish to bring in a donation we will be collecting these from Monday.

Tapestry Challenge: We hope you have all been able to access your Tapestry accounts now, thank you for your patience in the set up process and to the parents that attended the training session on Wednesday. We have decided to do an optional weekly Tapestry challenge for you that is linked to our learning.

This week’s challenge is to collect some autumn leaves and to create an animal, cutting, shaping and sticking on paper as we did in class this week. Many of the children found this activity quite challenging and we think it would be a good opportunity to continue to practise using leaves as a medium for art.

We would love to see images of their leaf hunt and any comments that they have made during the process of making their creature.
