Book week has come to an end (and a new chapter will begin next week!). We have fully embraced books this week, with many of us sharing our own books from home and even writing our own books… this could be the start of something wonderful!
We’ve continued to enjoy ‘Handa’s Surprise’ this week, making our own Handa’s surprise movies, retelling the story through songs and story maps and acting it out in our play. We’ve even made traps to catch those cheeky animals!
In our phonics we have continued to surprise our teachers by remembering our sounds from last week s and a, and being able to say and write our new sounds t and p. We are now able to use these sounds to make short words like sat, pat, tap and sap… and pasta if you feel like it!
In maths we have been busy learning to subitize collection of objects. We’ve been doing this through games and our Handa’s Surprise story. We have also being using our knowledge of counting in our child-initiated learning, our enormous trap is a great example!
Next week: Autumn is in the air and all around, and our story for next week will be ‘Little Yellow Leaf’. We will be focusing on communication and language, learning to describe leaves and some other signs of autumn. Please feel free to bring in leaves, conkers and other autumn things.
Teacher Note: Please remember to keep reading books and reading records in bags at all times as we will start reading with children throughout the week. Please remember that children at this early stage should be spotting the sounds that they have learnt in phonics, or developing their language for narrative story telling. Also, as you can see from our children’s amazing letter formation, they are working really hard to use lower case letters when writing – if possible, please reinforce this at home.
