We have been very busy this week in our Reception classes thinking about the difference between fiction (stories) and non-fiction (fact) books. We enjoyed looking at the different features of non-fiction books such as the contents page. We explored our non-fiction books to find lots of facts about different planets. First we found the planet in the contents page and then we wrote our favourite facts.

Our challenges have been very popular this week and have challenged us to apply lots of different learning. We enjoyed writing acrostic poems and playing blow football; writing number lines and making paper plate planets.

Next week

Our focus will move onto our transition to Year One and welcoming our new starters to Reception. We will ask the children to consider their highlights of the Reception year and think about their hopes for Year One. We are very busy next week with TWO Teddy Bears Picnics!

  • We will focus on ordinal language and applying this to different running races.
  • We will be covering the 3 SRE lessons for the Reception year.
  • In Phonics we will consolidate our knowledge of phase three and four.

Rainbow Challenges

Red- making a welcome to Acorns/Pumpkins/Sunflowers class for the new to Reception Teddy Bears picnic, we will decorate these signs with our favourite memories of Reception.

Yellow- writing five facts about us for our new teachers.

Blue- making a map of a Year One classroom.

Green- making a film for the new Reception children about what to expect.

Orange (teacher led)- tour of Year One classroom and learning street.
