What a week…

We have been very inspired by our story for this week ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ and all the associated challenges that have come with it.

The children have been in top form this week, painting their own aliens and improving their techniques in using different sized brushes and the right level of pressure.

We have also been exploring patterns in number in adding and subtracting one.

In phonics we were challenged to listen carefully to consonant blends at the beginning of words, there are some particularly difficult ones like ‘tr’ in tree and train (we often hear this as ch), or even tw, pr and st. Here is a video explaining what blends are, hopefully you like it and can sing along!

We also want to say a huge thank you for all the support and encouragement given to us and the children this week. They have been absolutely fantastic (as always) and we are so proud that they were able to share their amazing learning with our special visitors.

For Next Week

We will be turning our classroom into an ‘Alien School’, inspired by our book ‘Welcome to Alien School’. Each day we will be learning a different alien subject such as alien dance, alien geography, alien music. We hope this will be a fun and immersive experience for the children!

The challenges for next week will be:

Red: To turn a photograph of themselves into an alien using crayons, pencils, etc.

Blue: To use the IWB to complete a one more one less rocket game.

Yellow: To write an alien shopping list using our blends, digraphs and trigraphs.

Green: To create an alien recipe for some alien food.

Purple: To practice our throwing skills aiming beanbags at different targets.

The teacher-led activity for group time will be to create some alien golden agreements and explain why these will be important in alien school. The activity for maths is to practice our number formation and look at reversals.

Just as a reminder that there a number of events coming up.
