This week:
We have been really enjoying our new space topic this week. We have shared the story ‘Aliens Love Underpants’ and talked about what it would be like to go to space. We have written about the aliens and the different pants that they like to wear.
In maths we have we trying to help an alien solve the mystery of his disappearing pants using the language of subtraction.
We have also been enjoyed learning outside in the sunshine this week. We have pretended to ride moon rockets and fly to through outer space. We have also created space pictures outside with chalk.
Next week:
We are continuing our topic next week by looking at different inventions. We will be talking about the book ‘Rosie Revere Engineer’ and writing about inventions. In phonics we will continue to consolidate our understanding of digraphs, in particular “ai, oa and ar” because we are finding these tricky. We will be trying to write sentences with these sounds in during the week without an adult helping us. In maths we will try to solve more complex number problems that involve subtraction.
Home Learning:
The children have been very interested in the difference between fiction and non-fiction books about space. To extend this interest, over the weekend have a look at home, in a book shop or your local library for books about space and talk about the differences. Also, if you have not made a rocket yet, and would like to, please do bring one in at any point before the end of the half-term.
E-Safety:
The NSPCC website has a list of recommended books (5-11) that can bring up important learning points about staying safe online. These can help us discuss and understand how to make sure the internet is a space where we keep safe, we act kindly, and we don’t share personal information.
Requests:
White shirts – We are making a science lab role play area and would love any old white shirts that the children could use as lab coats.
Junk Modelling – We are making new inventions in Reception next week. Please do bring in any recycling that the children could use for junk modelling.
Race for Life – Please sign up on Wisepay if you would like to be involved.
Drawing competition – Please get involved in the Decathlon drawing competition if you would like.
Thank you for your on-going support. Over the weekend find some time to enjoy the sunshine with friends. Looking forward to another fantastic week of learning in Reception!
