We hope you’ve all had a restful break and made lots of happy memories with family and loved ones, we are looking forward to welcoming you all back on Tuesday, bright and early. Our new year brings us a new beginning and when we return we will be reflecting on the activities we did over the holidays, revisiting our routines and introducing our new topic ‘Snow and Ice’.

Adult-led activities will focus on drawing new self-portraits to reflect on how we have grown and changed and talking about our holiday activities in a small group to develop our oracy skills.

Group Time will begin to introduce our topic, talking about the north and south pole, the living things that you might find there and what it might be like to live there.

Our Challenges this week are…

Orange (Adult-led): drawing self-portraits

Yellow: writing our holiday news

Green: playing purposefully in our new role play areas (snow and ice-themed)

Blue: To begin to write equations based on a number story.

To prepare the children for the topic ahead it would be great to introduce some ‘Snow and Ice’ themed vocabulary such as:

  • Antarctica
  • Arctica
  • Polar bear
  • Seal
  • Penguin
  • Whale (orcas, narwhals, blue whales, humpback whales)
  • Iceberg
  • Temperature

Here are a couple of videos that the children might enjoy to prepare them for the new topic:
