Welcome back everyone! What a delightful start to our second half of the Autumn term, it was wonderful to open up our doors and receive such warm smiles! We are super proud of the way our little Meadows have happily returned and settled back into routines this week!
Topic This term- The Show must Go On!
This week has definitely been a colourful one! We have been finding out all about Diwali- The celebration of Light! We watched the story of Rama and Sita then did some role-play. We listened to the traditional tale of ‘The Gingerbread man’ in English and French, we then compared it to the Indian version, ‘The Runaway Chappati!’ This lead very nicely to actually eating some delicious chappatis too! We looked carefully at some beautiful traditional clothes, created our own Rangoli patterns using bright gems and coloured sand; and learnt various Indian dances like the firework dance, Dandia and Bhangra too. We love moving our bodies to the beat of the Dhol!
Ways to support at home.
Continue with rhyming- As Meadows thoroughly enjoyed creating their own ‘spot the mistake’ version of the nursery rhyme Twinkle Twinkle Little Star…… ask your child to make one up for you! Does it still rhyme? Can you think of other simple rhyming words? Cat, hat, mat and bat, even nonsense words- simply have fun!
Whilst out at the weekend, can you spot signs in the environment? This may be a trip to the supermarket, the name of your road or directions on a map! Help your child to recognise familiar ones!
Next Week:
Focus Text: Tiger in a Tutu- by Fabi Santiago
Adult Focus: Spotting print around us: Children to use Ipads to take photos of print they see around school.
Mark Making: Beginning to make marks that look like distinct characters- pictures, names, theatre tickets, money etc
Mathematics: Use language related to position and direction. Place a tiger in the doll’s house- where is it? Inside? On top? Beside? Under? Next to?
PSED and EAD: Respond to what we hear expressing our thoughts and feelings – Children will help to set up a theatre to act out their favourite stories using props or use the microphone to sing their favourite songs / nursery rhymes.
Physical Development: Fine motor-Use tweezers effectively to grasp small items and transfer them.
We look forward to seeing you all after half term break to continue to build our wonderful parent partnership!
