We enjoyed some wonderful learning once again during our busy week in Meadows!

Our main story was ‘The Great Race’ by Emily Hiles, a book which explains the legend of the Chinese zodiac and brought us to a wonderful celebration of Lunar New Year in the middle of the week! Big thank you to everyone who joined us and especially to those who shared some wonderful contributions! There is a special Tapestry post with photos of our wonderful celebration and of course …the great Dragon dance we performed with the children!

The children had several opportunities to practice their writing skills with different resources: from brushes and beautiful stone stumps to traditional Chinese calligraphy sets with ink, we explored the different marks we can leave on paper!

This week we have also been learning about the moon, the earth and the sun, comparing which is the smallest or the biggest, the hottest and the coldest and why is it that we can only survive on earth. The children were also amazed to realise that the earth is not still but constantly spinning! Outside, we shared wonderful ideas while learning how to create small spheres from bicarbonate of soda and water to represent the moon, the earth and the sun. We noticed how the texture of soda gradually changes into a paste when we mix it with a liquid like water and how it all becomes fizzy when adding some other type of liquid e.g. vinegar!

As we move on through this term can we please remind you to send a baby photo of your child, if you have not already done so. Having these pictures on display every day creates lovely opportunities for meaningful interactions and discussions with the children and supports their understanding of time and how it can transform things and humans!

We wish you all a lovely and hopefully sunny weekend!
