What a week we had in Meadows with songs, stories, play and science!
We enjoyed lots of rhythm, rhyme and singing together with “Snail, Snail”, “Singing in the Rain”, “Rain, rain, go away” and the very popular “What’s the weather like today?”.The children practised their listening skills through sound games and had a brief introduction to alliteration using S sounds e.g moving like snakes, snails and sliding as we spoke and sang together.
Story time was a big highlight with the book (and song) Singing in the Rain by Tim Hopgood which we sang, danced and listened to! Weather was a key theme this week once again. Children explored rain, puddles, snow and cold weather through stories, discussions and imaginative play using umbrellas, wellies and raincoats.
We continued to talk about daily routines at home and in Nursery, while sharing personal experiences from our daily schedules! What is the first thing you do when you wake up? Brush your teeth or wear clothes? Children explored caring for others through baby play, role play and discussions. Choosing friends to play with, sharing ideas and celebrating each other’s stories supported friendships and emotional development. We are also making sure that children will hear the scientifically correct names for their private parts. We will use the correct scientific terms penis, testicles and vagina and vulva. For more information, please see our Relationships Education Policy https://universityprimaryschool.org.uk/about-our-school/statutory/
As part of our STEM approach in the Nursery, we also explored how polar bears can stay warm in such cold weather with our blubber experiment! Make sure you look at the relevant post on Tapestry and ask your child how it felt to be an …eeekkkkkk polar bear! Furthermore, we started talking about space, and how the moon, the earth and the sun are not flat as they might appear on paper but are actually spheres which never stay still! How exciting!
We have also started our weekly visits to the library this week! We talked about behaviour in this special room and how we should respect the books we borrow and make sure we bring them back once we he have enjoyed sharing them!
We have loved seeing the children grow in confidence, independence and curiosity this week. Thank you for your continued support — we’re looking forward to more learning, play and discovery next week!
Have a lovely weekend!
The Nursery team.
