This week at nursery, the children have been busy exploring the wonders of nature and learning all about spring and life in the garden and on the farm.
To support our understanding of the world, we talked about farms and farm vocabulary, learning new words and connecting them to real-life experiences through songs and a small world farm set up!
The story of the week was: The very selfish crocodile by Faustin Charles. What does it mean to be selfish? And how may it impact our relatioships and friendships? Well, the crocodile taught us that being kind and sharing is making life easier and happier! Why don’t you ask your child to tell you the story in their own way and see what they can remember.
In maths, we started exploring patterns. The children practised making simple repeating patterns like red-blue-red-blue with colourful pebbles inside or rock-bark-rock-bark outside! We also looked at how the size or arrangement of objects doesn’t change how many there are, helping to build early numeracy skills.
We continued the week by planting potatoes, where the children made predictions about how many might grow. This was a lovely hands-on experience that sparked curiosity about how things grow and change over time.
Of course, no week is complete without lots of singing! Favourites included Cuckoo, Where Are You?, Sleeping Bunnies, Spring Chicken and Hot Cross Buns which are all action songs that kept us moving and smiling.
This week we also continued exploring different countries and languages! For more information about our Cuban and Spanish activities we enjoyed, please visit our Tapestry post!
A kind reminder that on Monday we will be having a very special farm visit. For those children attending only Wednesday-Friday, they are welcome to attend our 8:50-9:25am slot with their parents!
We can’t wait to see you all on this last week before the Easter Holidays!
