Our focus text this week was Storm by Sam Usher. The children loved exploring the story and talking about windy weather, storms, and how the characters felt. This led perfectly into lots of conversations about weather and the seasons, with plenty of opportunities to share their own experiences.
Inspired by the story, we did lots of kite making, using paper bags and colourful ribbons. The children enjoyed designing their kites and talking about how the wind helps them fly. These activities supported fine motor skills, creativity, and imaginative play.
Music was a big part of our week too 🎶
We sang lots of weather songs and number songs, which the children joined in with enthusiastically. Through these songs and playful activities, we explored numbers up to 5, representing them in different ways – using our fingers, some props and small parts to count, match and show quantities.
In our small keygroup times, we talked together about our daily nursery routines. These discussions help children feel confident, secure and ready for transitions throughout the day. You can find our transition songs shared on Tapestry, so you can enjoy singing them together at home too.
