Welcome back, everyone! It was wonderful seeing all the children back in school after the festive break.

English

This week in English, we’ve started an exciting new project: creating our own books! Using ‘In Our Hands’ by L Farfort as inspiration, the children have been practicing writing a simple narrative as they work on their covers and story ideas. It’s a wonderful way for them to bring their creativity to life while strengthening their writing skills. Here’s some learning your child can do at home. Here is the link to the video if you would like to share together.

Maths

In Maths, we’ve been counting within 20 and finding different ways to make ten. If you would like to work together to consolidate this learning, see link.

Next week we will be learning about teen numbers.

Phonics

This week we have revisited the /ow/ and the /oy/ sounds.

Next week we will be learning the new sound /oo/

For Phonics, we’ve been focusing on different spellings for the /oo/ sound:

  • <ew> as in “flew”
  • <ue> as in “true,”
  • <oo> as in “moon,”
  • <o> as in “do”
  • <u> as in “flute”

Practice at home is always helpful, so if you have time, ask your child to share some words they know for each spelling.

Topic

This week we are very excited to introduce our new topic- ‘The Great Fire of London 1666’

Please feel free to explore this topic using child friendly websites such as BBC Bitesize or take a visit to the library.

Notices

  • Book Change: No book changes this week. However, children will bring home some reading texts to enjoy. Today they have received the <ai> sound story ‘Rainy day, sunny day’.

Wishing everyone a restful weekend.
