We aim to create a playful curriculum where children are given opportunities to explore their learning through play. An over-arching topic is introduced each term which provides a focus for children’s learning and it is through each topic that different themes can be explored in imaginative and creative ways, allowing children to deepen their understanding in ways that best suit them. When planning, we focus on 5 key types of play; Functional, Physical, Symbolic, Pretence, Games. Children are encouraged to think playfully so that they can become leaders of their own learning.
We are working with the PEDAL centre at the Faculty of Education in developing our knowledge of the ways children engage in play and to explore ways to assess play throughout their time at our school.
